Radiant Catalytic Ionization

RADIANT CATALYTIC IONIZATION

Combining the power of the sun with geometry from the hives of bees, Radiant Catalytic Ionization (RCI) is a potent method to help purify the air. When the device is turned on, a UV lamp inside the device turns on. It emits UV radiation, which hits a honeycomb matrix within the device. This honeycomb structure, copied from one of Nature’s incredible creations built by bees, is very strong/robust and increases the surface area which comes into contact with the UV radiation.

This structure is coated with titanium dioxide (TiO₂) and helps to increase the speed of the chemical processes. Inside this honeycomb matrix, processes which create superoxide and hydroxide ions are started. When the UV radiation hits this honeycomb matrix, photocatalysis takes place. “Photo” refers to light, and a “catalyst” is something that speeds up a chemical process. So the light speeds up the processes taking place.

The ions that are created in this way eliminate the pollutants which are close to the honeycomb matrix, and when they exit the device they still act outside as “purifying plasma.” This means that even when they exit the device, they continue to destroy microorganisms, oxidize gaseous organic compounds and remove unwanted smells inside rooms.

HOW DOES RCI WORK?

Refer to the illustration above for the following details:

  • A honeycomb shaped matrix coated with titanium dioxide (TiO₂) inside the device allows maximum surface area for UV light exposure

  • UVC light from a UV lamp shines on this matrix at the right wavelength to release electrons from the TiO₂, leaving a positive charge on the matrix (hydrophilic - attracting water)

  • Reactions occur to generate the following reactive oxygen species (ROS):

  1. Hydroxyl Radicals (·OH): Formed by electron being taken from water by + charge on the TiO₂ matrix

  2. Superoxide Ion (O₂-): Formed by a released electron reacting with O₂

  3. Hydrogen Peroxide (H₂O₂): Formed by two hydroxyl radicals combining.

  4. O₃: Formed by the UV light splitting O₂. Resulting O- joins another O₂ to form O₃

WHAT ARE IONS?

Bi-polar Ionization

BI-POLAR IONIZATION

Based on data from the World Health Organization, in the past 20 years we have had more than 30 outbreaks of infectious diseases - and we are still in the grips of the most recent one. Worldwide, these annual epidemics are estimated to result in about 3 to 5 million cases of severe illness, and about 290 000 to 650 000 respiratory deaths. This is a large-scale issue which can not be taken lightly. The problem is that we spend 90% of our time inside buildings. We don’t have exposure to the sun with its UV light to kill germs naturally, and we don’t spend enough time in nature with its naturally occurring ionization to clean and disinfect the air that we breathe for us.

Fresh air, as found on the top of mountains or in the freshness of waterfalls, is what our family deserves. So we have to reverse-engineer nature itself. Air particles can be charged positively or negatively using electricity to activate the movement of free electrons in the air space, and by using electricity to elicit Needlepoint Bipolar Ionization, we change the charges of molecules. This makes the molecules stick to their molecules in the air, and gather together in groups until they are heavy and fall down - removing the odors, dust, and other particles of bad things in the air - leaving only freshness.

This means less smells, less pathogens, and less mold in your breathing space. Always having fresh air in your home not only reduces the chances of getting sick from an airborne disease, it also improves your quality of life - especially when you spend 90% of your time indoors. We can’t bring the sun and the waterfall right into your home, but we can help protect you and give you the best quality air that nature has to offer.

The best part about it is that most negative ions are safe, and studies indicate that they can even improve your health. Dr. Howard from the Center for Applied Cognitive Sciences in Charlotte, North Carolina, indicates that negative ions increase the flow of oxygen to the brain; resulting in higher alertness, decreased drowsiness, and more mental energy (Mann, D. 2002. Negative ions create positive vibes. WebMD Feature).

Around the world, scientists have been bringing freshness into our homes. From Prometheus who brought the fire to man, Albert Einstein’s innovations with ionisation, to Alexander L. Chizhevsky realizing the power of ionization in the air in the 1950s, scientists have always been on a mission to bring freshness into our homes.

NEEDLEPOINT BI-POLAR IONIZATION

We have built beautiful homes for ourselves and our families, but in doing so we have also surrounded ourselves with too many fabrics like curtains, carpets, pillows and blankets that all create large amounts of dust in our homes. We have also brought a lot of electrical devices that produce static and create many positively charged ions.

These positively charged ions keep all small particles of dust in the air, in our breathing zone, not letting them drop down on the floor. Those dust particles cause a lot of health problems starting with headaches and all the way too allergies and asthma, but more importantly these dust particles are the best traveling method for viruses. That’s where ionization comes in. Ionization process produces negatively charged ions that attach to those positively charged ions and make them heavy enough to drop down on the floor – out of our berating zone.

Air purifiers that generate only negatively charged ions are past century purifiers. The ratio of negatively charged ions and positively charged ions in nature is 3 to 4. Three positively charged ions to four negatively charged ions. That’s why Bi-Polar Needlepoint Ionization is important. We don’t want to have too many positively charged ions nor do we want to have too many negatively charged ions. We want to recreate nature’s ion balance indoors.

OxyGi has developed a very precise Bi-Polar Needlepoint Ionization technology for you to enjoy. You can rest assured that with OxyGi you are always on technology’s cutting edge!

Needlepoint Bi-polar Ionization

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The air is full of molecules. The electricity has free movement through these molecules. When the molecules come into contact with the device it splits them into ions (OH-, O-, H+)

Ions on dust

OZONE O3

O₃ is a gas made up of three oxygen atoms. It has strong oxidizing power. In nature, an electric glow forming an electrical charge or a spark from lightning creates O₃. This O₃ is a very powerful oxidizing agent, which means that it can easily attract electrons from other molecules towards itself and have an effect on them.

In nature, the O₃ molecules that are generated in the air after rainstorms come into contact with various microorganisms and destroy bacteria by attacking the membrane of the cell, causing the cell to explode and its contents to be released. This thunderstorm effect is created within the device using a ceramic plate with a metal screen/mesh.

Because of its oxidizing ability, O₃ molecules released by the device punctures the cell-walls of bacteria, stops viruses from reproducing, and are excellent at assisting with the purification of the air. Bring the incredible power of thunder and lightning storms inside to help sanitize the air you breathe!

O₃

O₂ molecules enter the air purifier and hit the special ceramic plate with metal mesh. Special high voltage generator creates 5000 volts and supplies them to that plate so O₂ molecules that come through the ceramic plate can be reformed into O₃ molecules and become trioxygen. Three O₂ molecules are reformed into two O₃ molecules. When a trioxygen molecule comes in contact with any organic or chemical binding in the air it uses that third active atom to break that binding and neutralize it.

WHAT IS O₃?

Mold

An ozone generator (or ozonation machine) is used to eliminate odors and disinfect water and air. To understand the principle of this device in detail, let's start with the gas it emits. The ozone molecule (O3) consists of an oxygen molecule (O2) and another oxygen atom (O). The atom can detach from the main O2 molecule and attach to other molecules, changing their chemical composition. This is how the reaction process removes odors with ozone and destroys contaminants, viruses, bacteria. In disinfection, O3 is much more effective than chlorine, which is why it is used to disinfect air and water. Ozone is used to get rid of fungus, mold, and even dust mites.

What is an ozone generators' method of purification?

When you hear the term ozone, you might think of the ozone layer, which protects us from the sun's dangerous ultraviolet radiation. This is ozone that is found in the stratosphere. But there is also ground-level ozone. Ground-level ozone is the main constituent of smog in metropolitan areas and is classified as an air pollutant. It is created by nature when sunlight interacts with chemicals released into the environment, such as exhaust fumes and industrial emissions.

Ozone is a strong oxidizing agent and therefore quickly destroys polymers, rubber, most metals, and can also damage electronics. If ozone is "overdosed", that is, it exceeds the maximum one-time concentration (which is 0.16 mg/m3), then it negatively affects health and can even lead to poisoning. Signs of ozone toxicity include shortness of breath, chest burning, coughing, and eye irritation.

So how can ozone be used for disinfection?

Ozonation has many benefits:

  • Sterilizing refrigerators, warehouses;

  • Purify water and air;

  • Removing persistent unpleasant odors;

  • Medical equipment sterilization;

  • Disinfects and extends the shelf life of food.

Also, ozonation is used in medicine.

Four types of Ozone Generators can be described according to their use:

  • Home ozone generators are designed for small rooms and produce a limited amount of ozone. They can disinfect not only the air and water but also food, furniture, clothes, linens, etc.

  • Industrial models are used for treating food to remove pesticides and chemicals and for disinfecting warehouses.

  • Medical ozonators are used in ozone therapy and for disinfecting the air in medical institutions. Portable ozone generators are convenient.

  • Automotive units are powered by the car's on-board power supply and are used to disinfect the car. They are essentially no different from home ozone generators, except their capacity is slightly less.

There are only two types of home ozone generators, depending on their purpose:

  • Water ozonators. When it comes into contact with water, ozone is more active in eliminating impurities than chlorine. However, you must take into account that the purification may result in sludge in the water, which must be treated additionally, i.e. ozonation of water is not equal to filtration.

  • Air ozonators.

The best ozone generator for you?

The first thing to check is that the appliance is certified — this means that it has been tested for safety and compliance with hygiene regulations.

Check the technical specifications. If the instructions do not specify the capacity or the maximum permissible operating time, the appliance is not recommended for use.

Use your unit according to its' operating instructions. Never leave the appliance with the cover open or keep it switched on for a long time. ( All of our purifiers sanitize using a timer to restrict over-generating. ) Caution: The ozonator uses high voltages when it is in operation, so improper use may cause a fire.

Conclusion

So, a big advantage of portable ozone generators is that they can be extremely effective at disinfecting the air and destroying bacteria and infections.
